What is a Ghost Town?

A ghost town is a settlement that has been largely or completely abandoned, typically after the industry or resource that sustained it — gold, silver, oil, or the railroad — dried up. Some are fully deserted with zero residents; others are "partially" abandoned, retaining a handful of inhabitants but a fraction of their peak population. We rate every town on a three-point scale: Yes (full ghost town), Partially, or No — but declining.
